Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 25, 2026

Overview

OpenGem is a desktop application that runs locally on your computer. We designed it with privacy as a core principle — your data stays on your machine, and we collect as little as possible.

Data that stays on your device

The following data is stored locally on your computer and is never sent to OpenGem servers:

  • Your conversation history with the AI
  • Google OAuth tokens and credentials
  • Email content, calendar events, and document data accessed by agents
  • Agent task results and HTML reports (stored in the Pool)
  • Long-term memories the AI saves about your preferences
  • All data in the local SQLite database

Third-party API calls

OpenGem sends data to third-party APIs to function. These calls are made directly from your desktop app — our servers are not intermediaries.

  • Anthropic (Claude) — Your messages and agent task descriptions are sent to Anthropic's API for AI processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to this data.
  • OpenAI — Used for agent task planning. OpenAI's privacy policy applies.
  • Google APIs — When you connect your Google account, agents access Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Docs through Google's official APIs using your OAuth tokens.
  • Brave Search — When agents perform web searches, queries are sent to Brave's Search API.

What we collect

Through the OpenGem website (opengem.ai), we collect:

  • Email address — When you sign up for the waitlist or create an account. Used only for product communication.
  • Basic analytics — Page views and general usage patterns via Vercel Analytics. No personal data is tracked.

We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal data.

Google account access

When you connect your Google account, you grant OpenGem specific OAuth scopes. You can review and revoke these permissions at any time through your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

OpenGem requests only the permissions needed for the features you use. Your Google credentials are stored locally in an encrypted database on your machine.

Chrome extension

The optional OpenGem Chrome extension enables browser-based agent tasks. It communicates only with the local OpenGem desktop app via a WebSocket connection on localhost. It does not send data to external servers, does not track browsing history, and does not run on pages unless an agent task is active.

Data deletion

Since your data is stored locally, you have full control. Uninstalling OpenGem removes the application. To delete all stored data, remove the OpenGem folder from your system's application support directory. To remove your email from our waitlist, contact us at hello@opengem.ai.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as OpenGem evolves. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or via email. Continued use of OpenGem after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
